Educational Goals
Through serious participation in the PMI Professional Massage Therapy program, graduates will have demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of the following through a variety of assessments and practical application:
- Client-centered, whole-body approach in applying a broad range of therapeutic modalities, including swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular and trigger point therapy, connective tissue/myofascial techniques, positional therapy, muscle energy technique, lymphatic drainage, and introductory cranial sacral therapy.
- Record keeping, including financial documents and SOAP (session) Notes
- Client-centered seated chair massage
- Massage Therapy and chiropractic care as complementary therapies
- Pregnancy Massage
- Anatomy, Physiology, kinesiology and Pathology, including HIV and related risks
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification
- Hydrotherapy and Thermotherapy
- Introductory health care terminology, Client Intake, insurance reimbursement issues
- Marketing, public relations, career and employment options survey, business plan development
- Professional ethics and law as it relates to scope of practice, including certification and licensing issues.
- Importance of hygiene and proper draping
- Basic wellness concepts, including nutrition, exercise, stress and time management; prevention of overuse injuries; balance of mind-body-spirit
- Hot stone therapy with an emphasis in medical spa settings
- History of massage therapy, current and future trends
- As an Elective, Florida State Licensing Legislation for Massage Therapists
